Frequently Asked Questions
Do you see children?
We work with adolescents and adults, ages 6 and older. If you are needing therapy for a loved one ages 5 and younger, we are happy to provide appropriate referrals.
I've never been to therapy before. Aren't people who go to therapy weak?
It is not weak to seek guidance. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, We will help you explore and identify your strengths, guide you through the darkness, and help you implement the necessary tools to reduce suffering.
What does our first appointment look like?
During the first session, your clinician will complete a formal assessment with you, tailored to your individual needs. In this appointment, we will begin formulating a comprehensive treatment plan, designed for you. Each session is 45-50 minutes. We will discuss future scheduling (frequency of sessions, duration of sessions, and goals/objectives).
How long will I be in therapy?
Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place. A therapy session lasts 45-50 minutes, but some people request longer sessions, which we can accommodate. If in crisis or extreme distress, it may be recommended that we meet multiple times a week, until the crisis passes. At TBCS, we use evidenced-based techniques to help you facilitate your growth to learn how to live independently. Our goal is to help you learn tools to help you through life without therapy.
Who will know about my therapy appointments?
Most of what we discuss together in therapy is confidential. The exceptions to confidentiality are the following: You are in direct danger of harming yourself or others, you have harmed a minor/elderly/ or disabled person. Any concerns about confidentiality will be addressed prior to our appointments. Privacy and feeling safe to disclose your fears, concerns, and vulnerabilities is a necessity in the healing process.
Do you provide online counseling?
Yes! We offer a variety of phone and video therapy platforms. We will provide you with downloading information prior to our first appointment.
